Where in Spain Wednesday – Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter

Here’s one of my favorite areas of Barcelona – the gorgeous Gothic quarter.

It’s a bit misleading to call it just the Gothic Quarter. You can see remains from all the way back to the Roman days, as well as modernist touches here and there. It’s really layers upon layers of different eras, and you pretty much always turn the corner and find something fascinating.

This little guy is perched high above the cobblestoned streets in an area that looks medieval, but is actually a replica from the 19th century. That’s not exactly new, but it’s still much newer than I thought.

That’s part of the reason I love Barcelona so much – it’s full of layers and surprises. Sometimes it’s as simple as just looking up while you’re walking.

Besos!
