Where in Spain Wednesday – Sevilla’s Feria de Abril

In honor of Sevilla’s famous Feria de Abril, which is happening this week, here’s one of my favorite photos from last year’s Feria – a bunch of girls in their flamenco dresses enjoying the carnival.

This part of the fair takes places in the Calle del Infierno – Hell Street. It’s bursting with bright attractions and shrieks of delight. It’s basically a mini-attraction park set up during the week of the Feria, with everything from scary rides that shoot you up into the sky to tiny paddling boats for toddlers.

Even though the Feria wasn’t quite my cup of tea, I definitely enjoyed seeing how the old, traditional elements of the celebration mixed with a modern party. I really liked the contrast between the very traditional outfits and the new fairground rides. And all the women have such fun expressions on their faces that show the exuberance of the Feria.

Besos!

  1. I really like this photo Jessica!!! So so great! There are many things that make this photo so great: the dresses, the fact that they are on a ride, their expressions…

I hope you had a great time at Fallas.

    • Some do! For me, it was just impractical for a few reasons:

      A) It’s expensive! Those dresses are made very carefully and with tons of fabric, so they’re really pricey. Even if you rent one, it’s still not cheap.
      B) I have no other occasion to wear a dress like that to.
      C) One definitely would NOT fit in a carry-on bag.

  2. What a great photo!
I really wish I had spent more time there during the day. After our first night out till 6am, when we returned at 4pm the next day with plans to just roam around older drunk guys started chatting with us and when they invited us into a caseta, well, we couldnt’ say no! jajaja.
The only drawback was we missed our golden opportunity to take photos. How could we say no to FREE rebujitto!
